MTB Håkadalen
Yesterday afternoon we took clients on our MTB X-trail trip in Håkadalen. Weather was perfect and temp was good above tree level. Conditions for trail riding yesterday was a bit more challenging than usual on the technical sections due to a lot of water after a few days with rain. Our clients, who had not done any off-road cycling before, did a great job and completed the 3 km trail down into Håkadalen without problems.

An afternoon with climbing and rappel!
Yesterday we spent the afternoon climbing and rappelling at Vemork, together with 6 inspired clients. We started off with the 30 meter rappel west of Vemork bridge, an exciting challenge for most people. Rappelling means abseiling down using ropes and climbing equipment, which is easier than it sounds. You control the vertical speed with a special rope device.
After completing the rappel we spent the rest of the afternoon and evening climbing in excellent conditions. None of our clients had climbed before so it was fun to see that everyone managed to climb the 30 meter rock wall without problems. Another perfect day in Rjukan!

Mountain bike from Våeroi to Fjellstua
For those who are interested in more technical trails, we suggest that you check out our latest contribution to the MTB track log of this area. To get to this excellent trail, a good start is to go from Gvepseborg to Piggnatten and follow the trail from the top towards the tourist trail to Hellberghytten. Cross the river at Våeroi seter and carry the bike up the steep hill on the other side of the river. From the top of the hill you have a few kilometers of excellent trail towards Gjerdalen and Rjukan Fjellstue.
The technical grade of this trail varies from easy single track to sections with reasonably difficult terrain, especially the steep section in Gjerdalen, where most people have to carry the bike. The section after the climb at Våeroi until Gjerdalen is more or less flat.
The distance between the end of the trail to Rjukan Fjellstue is a few kilometers on gravel road. From Fjellstua you follow the main road back to Rjukan (approx. 15 minutes).
One should estimate to spend between 4 and 5 hours to complete the whole round trip from Gvepseborg to Rjukan. Most of the trail is above the tree line so we recommend to bring necessary equipment in case of bad weather. Don't assume cell phones will work in the area.

A GPS is an important piece of equipment for more advanced cycling in the mountains
Despite that this trail offers some technical trail riding we still recommend it to people with basic mountain bike skills, due to the fantastic scenery and lots of great cycling terrain. Maps and GPS track logs are available on our MTB Tracks page. Have fun!

Rock climbing at Vemork!
Yesterday we did a rock climbing day trip with clients from a rock climbing intro course earlier this summer. The rock wall at Vemork is a perfect follow-up to our rock climbing courses, offering longer and more difficult routes. Especially 10 year old Edvin impressed us with excellent climbing techniques and we look forward to see more to this young and promising talent in the future.

Mountain bike on vidda!
Another day with fantastic mountain bike together with satisfied clients! The trip from Gvepseborg and down Håkadalen is our most popular guided mountain bike trip, and after a day like yesterday we can see why. Conditions for mountain bike are perfect at this time of year and weather has been excellent.
This was the first off-road mountain bike experience for our German clients and they did the 30 kilometer long trip in less than 5 hours. Another great day in the mountains!
